Newbie to site. Hanging my head in shame.

Hi Everyone.

I have being a nail tech for many years but I'm old school - no drill, still use polish, etc.

I know that gel polishes are the thing now so I purchased solvent.
I also purchased a dip system that requires an LED lamp to cure.

In walks in my first client, with red gel polish, wanting an infill.

I start by soaking off the gel - then the problems started
1. as the gel was dissolving, it was also dissolving the acrylic and tips.
2. the red gel she had on got under the nail and I couldn't remove it.

I did the infill but I not at all happy with the result  because the solvent had turned her extension clear and she still had traces of gel muck under her nails.

I go to use my drill to clean under her nails to remove the muck. - drill bit wont fit in hand piece.

It gets worse.

Next comes the application of the nail dip colour - red
You cant actually dip the nails in as the pots are small so you have to sprinkle it on.
What a mess.
The powder, apart from other problems, stained her skin and I couldn't remove it.

Needless to say, I didn't charge her.

I am a good nail tech but yesterday was a total nightmare and I felt like a useless idiot.

I need a better method to remove gel polish as obviously, I cannot use this soak off method.

As for the LED dip system - the pinks and clear powders would work out better as they come in large pots but the coloured powders ... I need tips on a better way to apply it. Sprinkled method turned out uneven and grainy.

Any tips, ideas or comments would be greatly appreciated.

As you found out, you can't soak off gel polish on enhancements - you'll need to file them off. An electric file with a disposable Sanding band will save your wrist and a bunch of time here!

I personally despise dip systems so I can't help you there
